A vision board is a powerful self-development tool because it helps clarify goals, inspires motivation, and keeps you focused. By visualizing your dreams daily, you engage your subconscious mind, foster positive thinking, and stay aligned with your aspirations, turning them into actionable steps.
Here's how you can create it
Step 1: Define your goals, wishes, and dreams
Figure out your goals, wishes, and dreams for your life. You may already have a clear idea, or you may be a bit uncertain - or something in between. I have developed a method and a template to help you structure your thoughts to approach your goals, dreams, and wishes.
In the left column, you'll find 10 areas of life. The top row contains the time frame. You can adjust the time frames according to your needs. I like to work with horizons of 1, 5, 10, and 30 years.
Now, write in each column what you want to achieve in the respective area of life. Write the sentences as if they were already true.
Step 2: Visualize your goals, wishes, visions
In the next step, collect images related to your goals, wishes, and visions. This can be done digitally or analog.
For digital image search, you can use the image search on Google or another search engine. Pinterest is also a great source of inspiration. Feel free to check out my profile there; you can find the link and even more sources in the materials.
For the analog creation of a vision board, use magazines or books. Cut out what fits your vision. This can be pictures, words, or symbols. Stickers are also good for design. You can also use natural materials such as wood, flowers, leaves, or any objects suitable for a collage.
Step 3: Design your Vision Board
For the design of my vision board, you can use a large piece of paper as a base. It can be white or colored. This year I used my new Yoga Journaling Notebook - a lined notebook with yoga illustrations and words of yoga wisdom.
Then I begin placing my pictures, cutouts, and objects on the paper in a way that pleases me. There are no rules here. In the end, the design should appeal to you. Make sure that the important themes get enough space.
Once I'm satisfied with the arrangement, I glue everything down.
Step 4: Find a suitable place for your Vision Board
The vision board should remind you of your goals, wishes, and visions. Therefore, find a place where you can see it well and often. For example, on the fridge or in your office.
Every time you pass by the vision board, practice gratitude. Thank your vision board for your wishes coming true.
Step 5: Formulate your Affirmations
Take your Goals-Wishes-Visions table and your Vision Board and try to derive an affirmation from them. What do you need to achieve your goals? What qualities do you want to invite into your life? What intention are you setting for the new year?
- For this year, I set the following affirmations for myself:
- I grow through my challenges.I trust my intuition.
- I let my creativity flow.
You can use these affirmations in your meditation, during your journaling practice, or anytime during the day when they support you.
