13 wishes for the New Year

13 wishes for the New Year

The Raunächte (Twelve Nights) are a time of deep introspection and magic, traditionally observed between December 25 and January 6. Here's how you can incorporate the 13-wishes ritual into your Raunacht practice:

Materials Needed

  • 13 small pieces of paper or parchment
  • A pen
  • A fireproof bowl or fireplace
  • A quiet space for reflection

Preparation (Before the Raunächte Begin)

  1. Set Intentions: Sit in a quiet space and center yourself. Reflect on your hopes, dreams, and goals for the new year.
  2. Write Your Wishes: Write down 13 heartfelt wishes or intentions—one per piece of paper. These could be related to health, love, career, personal growth, or any other area of life.
  3. Fold the Papers: Fold each piece of paper so the writing is hidden. Focus on the intention as you fold, sealing your energy into it.
  4. Place the Papers in a Bowl: Mix the folded papers in a fireproof bowl, container, or special bag.

The Ritual: Burning the Wishes (Each Night of the Raunächte)

  1. Choose a Time: Set aside a quiet moment each evening, preferably at the same time, to honor the ritual.
  2. Select a Wish: Without looking, draw one piece of paper from the bowl.
  3. Burn the Wish:
    • Light a candle and use it to ignite the paper.
    • As the paper burns, focus on releasing this wish to the universe, trusting it will manifest in divine timing.
    • Place the burning paper in a fireproof bowl or fireplace for safety.
  4. Reflect and Meditate: Take a few moments to meditate or journal about the day, or any insights or feelings that arise.

The Final Night (The 13th Wish)

  1. Retrieve the Last Wish: On the 12th night (January 5), you will be left with one folded piece of paper.
  2. Unfold and Read: Open this paper and read the wish you wrote. This wish represents something you are invited to take personal responsibility for in the coming year.
  3. Plan Your Action: Reflect on how you can actively work towards this wish in the new year. Write down steps, make a vision board, or incorporate this wish into your goals.

Additional Tips

  • Enhance the Ritual: Combine the burning with other Raunacht traditions, such as smudging with herbs (sage or juniper) or using essential oils to cleanse your space.
  • Mindful Journaling: Keep a journal throughout the Raunächte to record dreams, insights, and feelings. Many believe this period is rich with intuitive messages and guidance for the year ahead.

This ritual embodies the balance between surrendering to the universe's flow and taking mindful action, creating a harmonious start to the new year.
